Financial Case Study

Published 26 May 2010 | By Emedia Plus

A customer has 50,000 tapes which still contain data but which is no longer required.

However concerns over data protection require that the tapes are shredded on-site. Typically on-site tape shredding may cost more that £40 per tape resulting in a cost of disposal of £2M.

Assuming that the tapes were a mixture of LTO3 and LTO4 formats then a buy-back may provide between £2 and £4 per tape. Even conservatively that would provide £100,000 credit towards new media, with data eradication and certification included. The major advantage would be no residue being dumped into landfill - even environmental ones. Other case studies are included in our whitepaper.
