VDK Spaarbank to distribute card readers to online banking customers

CBR Staff Writer Published 14 November 2006

Belgian bank VDK Spaarbank has agreed to distribute Vasco Data Security International's Digipass 810 smart card reader to all of its online users, enabling the bank's e-banking and e-commerce customers to use the device in conjunction with the VDK debit smart card.

The Digipass 810, or VDK-Card Reader as the product has been named by VDK Spaarbank, is an unconnected personal card reader designed for non-face-to-face strong authentication in internet banking.

As well as distributing the card reader to its e-banking customers, VDK Spaarbank's e-commerce customers will also be able to use the device. VDK Spaarbank is among the pioneer banks participating in Banksys, an e-commerce project that allows payment by debit smart cards for online purchases. To pay online, a customer needs their debit card, the card number and expiration date, and their Digipass to identify themselves.
