First Data expanding in Canada with Interac membership
Payment services company First Data International has become a member of the Interac Association, and said that it will begin offering Interac services in Canada in 2007.
<p>Interac Association is a Canadian organization that facilitates electronic financial transactions. As an Interac member, First Data will have the ability to capture and process debit transactions in Canada. This new capability will allow First Data merchant clients to accept the Interac branded card at the point of sale.<br /><br />First Data plans to make Interac services available within the Canadian marketplace in the second quarter of 2007.<br /><br />Becoming an Interac member is a major milestone in expanding our capabilities in the Canadian market, said Peter Harrington, president of Canada operations at First Data International. <br /><br />First Data is already one of the largest merchant acquirers for MasterCard transactions in Canada.</p>
