BBR Staff Writer Published 01 February 2012

Credit Agricole has selected digital security firm Gemalto for deployment of contactless EMV banking cards in France.

Gemalto noted it is the first to market secure Optelio contactless EMV banking card with added security features.

The banking card is certified by Groupement d'Intérêt Economique - Carte Bancaire (GIE-CB) and has optimised EMV risk management features for the French market.

Gemalto senior vice president Gabrielle Bugat said that with this new project, Credit Agricole is keen to offer their customers secure and reliable payment solutions, while benefiting from the latest technological innovations.

Credit Agricole said leveraging their global expertise in EMV and contactless rollouts worldwide, the Gemalto team put forward the right product at the right time for its programme in France.

Credit Agricole stated the deployment facilitates contactless payment for all its customers and saves time for both merchants and cardholders and reduces cash handling.
